"Ashes"

Some have their ashes scattered,

Cross the ranges far and long,

Or in some big arena,

Where their rodeo belonged.

And I have heard of people,

Who poured ‘em in the sea,

Let the waves just take ‘em,

Wherever they would be.

I’ve heard that there are some folks,

That will go up in planes,

And let the ashes fly down,

Just iike it’s ‘bout to rain.

But I’m thinkin’ my ashes,

Should go into a boot,

Make it Tony Lama,

Or maybe custom foot.

Make sure it is a tall top,

We don’t want it to spill,

When they’re up on the mantlepiece,

Or on the window sill.

The main thing is to keep ‘em,

Away from some who’d see,

A handy piece of foot gear,

And how they’d look to be,

If strapped with big-rowel spurs,

And stepped right on a colt,

Then found out it was Poppy,

They would get quite a jolt!

But really doesn’t matter,

‘Cause I’ll be in God’s arms,

A-ridin’ those big pastures,

A way past earth’s alarms.

“…the last enemy to be destroyed is death…” (1 Cor. 15:26, NLT)

Death is inevitable and unavoidable. No matter how long someone lives or how healthy they are, death will one day take them. When people lived shorter life spans they seemed more concerned about what would happen when they died. The more years we’ve added to the expectation, the more shocked we are when death knocks at our door. If Jesus comes back of course, we might get to skip it, but no one has yet. Death is a reality, but good news, it will one day be conquered forever.

Lord, remove our fear of death, in Jesus’ name.
