"Bee-stung"

There’s some, you know the ones I mean,

Ego so full can’t learn a thing,

Have no regard for what you’ve seen,

Bee-stung through and through.

All swelled up with what they know,

Missed the humble lessons so,

God says He’ll resist them though,

And what He says He’ll do.

Resistance is a form of grace,

To try to make ‘em seek His face,

Else He’d just disband their case,

His love will not turn loose.

And if they humble down real low,

It triggers all God’s grace to flow,

To lift them up and let them know,

It matters what they choose.

So listen all you know it alls,

Your pride goes right before your falls,

The humble answer when God calls,

And He will faithful be.

The breaking of His discipline,

Is there to help you lose to win,

And be like Jesus in the end,

It’s by His grace you see.

“But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, ‘God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6, NAS)

God has promised to always resist the proud. This means at all times, at all places, and in every situation without exception this is what God does. He opposes pride. Why? Because unless one acknowledges their need for God they will never turn to Him. It takes humility to do that. True humility is seeing ourselves the way God sees us. If we have an honest, accurate view of ourselves, we will agree with God about what we need and what He offers. Humility is the grace trigger, even though when God resists or pride it is the grace that continues to deal with us even though we are arrogant. When we humbly cooperate with God’s grace great things happen in our lives.

Lord, help us to humble ourselves, in Jesus’ name.
