"Before the Sunset"
The worry and the fever,
The world’s fast-pulling lever,
As busy as a beaver,
A crowdin’ us along.
I wonder when it’s frantic,
If I can stop the panic,
From low to hyper-manic,
This pace is oh so wrong.
So I will pull my cinches,
Withdraw from all these pinches,
Break free the devil’s clinches,
And go where I belong.
Back to my old blood country,
And ways to live more humbly,
I will say it bluntly,
I’m through and won’t prolong.
I go to what I once knew,
And never thought I was through,
My cowboy ways I’ll rescue,
From what could never be.
And there before the sunset,
The peace of God I will get,
And much less town you can bet,
It’s what God gives to me.
“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires…” (Ps. 37:4, NLT)
If I delight in Him, everything changes. What I love revolves around my love for Him. What I want is surrendered to His will and timing. I want Him above all else. But in that mix if there is anything left over that I want, this promise applies. God is never going to give us something harmful. But if we delight in Him, there are great possibilities for blessing. What if your life is so hectic you just want to somehow escape the rat race? What if the noise and chaos of working for more money and promotions is too exhausting to continue? If we love the Lord, it might be that He will show us a much better way to conduct our lives. Not all want to cowboy, but we’re just talking about having a simpler life. The point is stepping back to ask God what is important and if what we’re doing measures up. If we delight in Him He will give us our heart’s desires. Amen.
Lord, help us to delight in You, in Jesus’ name.
