"Betrayer"

He was one of the chosen twelve,

But failed Christ in the end,

Sold Him out for money,

His life was all pretend.

Pretend to love the Savior,

Pretend to sacrifice,

Pretend to care for sinners,

Pretend to pay the price.

But his thievery was fatal,

The Book says do not steal,

And if you worship money,

It’s the short end of the deal.

Which led him to his suicide,

He could not bear the pain,

When he should have asked forgiveness,

God’s mercy he could claim.

Judas was a tragedy,

The devil sealed  his fate,

Forgive us our betrayals,

And help us not to wait,

To trade in every idol,

And our love for money, too,

So we can keep on going,

And live a life that’s true.

“But Jesus said to him, ‘Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?’” (Luke 22:48)

The sign of endearment and greeting, the kiss was offered to point out Jesus to those who came to arrest Him. Judas made the arrangement for thirty pieces of silver which he later returned because of the remorse he felt for betraying innocent blood. He had been a thief all along, pilfering from the expense purse and when the devil got hold of him he became an infamous villain- the one who betrayed the Son of God. Instead of finding repentance the way Simon Peter did, Judas committed suicide- a tragic end to a tragic life. Every betrayal is a tragedy. Let us seek the Lord’s mercy for ours.

Lord, please forgive our every betrayal of You, in Jesus’ name.
