“Home”

The stars they came right out tonight,

The way they always do,

The difference is we watched ‘em come,

And I’m at home with you.

They say home is where the heart is,

And you have all my heart,

You are proof that God loves me,

And when we were apart,

I thought that maybe someday,

In answer to my prayer,

We’d make a home together,

Somehow, some way out there.

And here we sit together,

The horses cross the fence,

We can hear them nicker,

And I am thankful since,

I knew God wasn’t finished,

With this old cowboy yet,

And now we watch the night come on,

Under these stars we’re set.

To serve the One who flung them,

From His hand into space,

Says He prepares a home for us,

With His amazing grace.

And every earthly blessing,

Gives a glimpse of then,

When we are home together,

Freed from this world of sin.

The sweet is in the bye and bye,

And sweet right here with you,

Home is not a place or time,

But all about with who.

“I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among His people...” (Rev. 21:3, NLT)

John speaks of an eternal announcement that will one day come true. God will live eternally with His people, and we will live forever with Him. Those who know this live life on earth differently from all others. Why? Because everything is evaluated with eternity in mind. We are relieved from fear, worry, dread, and so much more because we know our ultimate destination. And the greatest thing about heaven is not what is there, but who is there. It is our destiny, and one to celebrate.

Lord, help us focus on eternity, in Jesus’ name."
