"Clear"
There’s a moment when it all comes clear,
Not what you’ve seen before,
Whether doubt or even fear,
Kept you from that open door.
But then somehow the lights come on,
The grace to finally know,
That nothing past that you have done,
Can prevent where you will go.
And not from selfish confidence,
Do you come to feel this way,
But through God’s divine providence,
And what the Lord will say,
When you wonder ‘cause the scripts are strong,
That circle in your head,
And make you think you don’t belong,
But somewhere else instead.
But what the Lord says trumps all that,
And His truth sets us free,
Casts out all that leaves us flat,
And graces us to be,
All that He intended,
Sent out as He was sent,
His call is ne’er rescinded,
No matter where we went.
And God can make tomorrow,
Make up for yesterday,
Give us joy for sorrow,
We know that we’re okay.
So wake up if you’re sleeping,
And step up if you’re still,
He dries the tears of weeping,
And anoints to do His will.
Ask God to show you clearly,
So clearly you can see,
That He still loves you dearly,
And knows what you can be.
“I pray that the eyes of you heart may be enlightened, so that you will know the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe…” (Ephesians 1:18-19, NAS)
Paul prays that they will see something that they perhaps have never been able to see. He want their hearts to receive an enlightenment., to be given God’s light so that they receive with clarity what the Lord wants them to know. This knowledge falls into two categories: future and present. God wants them to have hope about their future glory. And God wants them to know the power that is available to them now, the same that raised Christ from the dead and by which He ascended to God’s right hand. Their history should no longer define them. Instead God’s hope for the future and God’s power in the present.
Lord, light us up, in Jesus’ name.
