"Come Back"
The cottonwoods and old cow paths,
And springs hid in the rocks,
The honeysuckle fragrance lasts,
What the country life unlocks.
And wandering through time and place,
A memory takes me there,
The wonder of that summer grace,
The hay mown pastures fair.
I didn’t worry ‘bout a thing,
Had boundless energy,
Took time to hear the field birds sing,
Dreams of cowboy destiny.
Life and fear and hurt and pain,
Took there toll on me,
Oh, to feel that fresh again,
And go back, you see.
But here’s the hope the Good Lord gives,
To every mother’s son,
Abundant life is ours to live,
And it can still be done.
‘Cause the Lord of every singing bird,
Of every rock and tree,
Speaks to us His perfect word,
And says we can go free.
Free from guilt and all its shame,
Free to find God’s peace,
That only comes in Jesus’ name.,
In Him we find release.
So come on back to childhood joy,
And all that might have been,
The love His power wlll employ,
To heal and to make clean.
“But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” (Revelation 2:4, NAS)
Do you recall when you first gave you life to Jesus and began loving Him. Do you remember how relieved you felt to have your sins forgiven and know that your name was written in heaven? When we drift from what we experienced when our relationship to Jesus began He says we need to return to the Lord and repent. We can live in our first love if we are intentional about staying close to Jesus and obeying Him. Come back.
Lord, help us return to our first love, in Jesus’ name.
