"Comeback"
The ultimate in comeback,
The best there ever was,
The Alpha and Omega,
Came back and all because,
There was one lost and wandering,
And hopeless and far gone,
Form the portals there in glory,
It seemed so far, so long.
But all because of mercy,
Compassion, endless love,
He left His place in heaven,
Came low from there above.
And humble as a servant,
And no rights as a slave,
All the way to Calvary,
The Father His Son gave.
Down in the grave they laid Him,
The tomb was sealed in stone,
Death’s grip thought it had Him,
And there He was alone.
But early Easter morning,
The stone was rolled away,
The ultimate in comebacks,
So one and all can say,
He came at last to free me,
And I have found my worth,
The Christ who came from heaven,
Rose up from the earth.
And now the door is open,
No longer lost, but found,
All because He came back,
Right up from the ground.
“…He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor…” (Phil. 2:8-9, NLT)
It’s one thing to promote yourself but quite another to be promoted by God. Selfish promotion is nothing but a way of controlling and manipulating others to get what we want and think we deserve. It has no problem using others and devaluing them in order to find the way forward. Ultimately, the disciple of Jesus chooses humility over honor. If we humble ourselves and trust God with our advancement, He will grace us to get where we need to be. And when we do, it will be for His glory, not ours. Jesus led the way, and God the Father exalted Him and gave Him a name above all others.
Lord, help us have Your humble attitude, in Jesus’ name.
