"Compass"

Out there ridin’ bucking horses,

In places I should never be,

Often hit the ground so hard,

Storm of good old gravity.

Dropped and broke my moral compass,

Fragile, shaky as it fell,

Though before things were chaotic,

But then went straight to hell.

‘Cause without a moral compass,

Things never get reined in,

Get more and more irrational,

Just the way it is with sin.

Takes you farther than you want to go,

Keeps you there far past your stay,

Cost is higher than you ever thought,

The devil makes you pay.

But here’s the news that’s needed,

Grace is ours and it is free,

Jesus came to give us,

All that we need you see.

And He becomes our moral compass,

When we in our hearts believe,

The Holy Spirit makes it so,

And that’s what we receive.

So if you’re out there hurting,

And you’ve wandered far away,

Run back home to Jesus,

Find a brand-new start today.

He becomes our righteousness,

Grants repentance as a gift,

From darkness that once had control,

Into His light He’ll lift.

“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!” (Ephesians 5:8, NLT)

We are shocked when people’s behavior shows no moral compass. But we shouldn’t be so surprised. People who do not follow Jesus are vulnerable to the darkness of this world. Indeed, we have been delivered ourselves from these evil influences and have now been brought under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. He fills our lives with light and drives our all the darkness! Live this way, not the old way.

Lord, be our moral compass, in Jesus’ name.
