"Devil"

Old Lucifer was beautiful,

His looks used to deceive,

To lead astray the sons of men,

So they would not believe.

Sometimes a daring dandy,

Who sweeps ‘em off their feet,

Can even play a cowboy,

But this I’ll oft repeat,

What he offers you is poison,

Though disguised as something great,

The father of all liars,

Will fool you with his bait.

Sometimes he’s like a beauty,

Sumptuous bosom, curvy hip,

But behind her make-up,

You’ll find a barb-wire whip.

And many men of God are ruined,

By the devil in disguise,

It’s why the Bible says to run,

And that, my friend, is wise.

He’s just an old pretender,

An angel full of light,

But we can put him on the run,

If we get it right.

It’s in the name of Jesus,

And by the power deep within,

That rises up to overcome,

When he tempts us to sin.

So be alert my children,

And don’t you be deceived,

Greater is the One in you,

The Spirit you’ve received.

So when old slew foot comes your way,

And knocks upon your door,

Ask the Lord to answer it,

And He’ll give him what for.

“No wonder, for even satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14, NAS)

He’s called in scripture the “god of this world” who blinds the minds of unbelievers. Jesus called him the “father of lies” and said we should pray God would deliver us from the evil one. Paul says he disguises himself as an “angel of light.” No doubt about it, he is the worst of all monsters but does not appear to be. That’s why we need God’s discernment. The devil is a great deceiver, and is the spirit behind all those who misrepresent themselves. Paul said some would pretend to be apostles but they were false and we should not be fooled by their deceit. All this to say that we are in a spiritual battle that requires us to be proactive. Be strong and resist the devil, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, help us discern and resist satan, in Jesus’ name.
