"From the Mud"

When you sink, do you think,

The Lord will fail to see,

Always there with loving care,

He comes for you and me.

There will be falls, but nothing stalls,

The real help that we need,

He’s there to save, will never cave,

Our hungry souls to feed.

Never strong and almost gone,

In mud that had us stuck,

With love’s strong rope that gives us hope,

His rescue plan conduct.

Saved, set free will always be,

The heart of who we are,

Identity, defined you see,

By grace sent from afar.

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and more…” (Psalm 40:2, NIV)

Wandering off into a boggy place can be lethal. It’s true with livestock and it’s true with people. When we sink, the Lord is there to pull us out, clean us up, and send us along our way. There are emotional and spiritual “bogs” to avoid, and if we allow the Spirit to lead us He will help us avoid these danger zones. We will stay to the high ground of God’s will and walk securely. Sometimes we are sent to be part of God’s rescue plan with another person. This makes it even more important to rely on the Spirit’s power and leadership, because we can be pulled down while trying to help others who are stuck. From start to finish it’s all about God’s grace. Rely on it always.

Lord, lead us out of the mud and into firm footing, in Jesus’ name.
