"God So Loved"

For God so loved the world,

I learned it as a kid,

The one and only Son of God,

He gave, that’s what He did.

And I knew i was a sinner,

Guilt flowed in my blood,

I deserved to go to hell.

My luck said I would.

Everytime they spoke of hell,

I ran the altar down,

Prayed to God, apologized,

When revival came to town.

But I was not sure of it,

And surely did not see,

My worth in the eyes of God,

Though Jesus died for me.

It was mostly fire insurance,

And when you came to die,

You did not have to go there,

Just give it your best try.

But then I finally got it,

When Jesus died for me,

It was not just my sinfulness,

But my value, don’t you see.

How much was I worth to God,

It was the price He paid,

No one’s worth a nickle more,

No matter what is said.

But the precious blood of Jesus,

Was shed and just for me,

I’m told if I’m the only one,

He’d still do Calvary.

And then, O Lord, it hit me,

I’m precious in His eyes,

For God so loved He came for me

It was quite a surprise.

For God so love you, brother,

And, sister, came for you,

His love for us is measureless,

And trust it, cause it’s true.

“For this is how much God loved the world…” (John 3:16, NLT)

I leaned John 3:16 when I was a kid growing up in Sunday School, so I can’t really remember not knowing it. But it said to me that I was a worthless sinner and Jesus died to save me. So believe in Him so you can be saved and not go to hell. Truth is, I understood my sinfulness but misunderstood how much God loved me. There are a lot of people like me who know they need God’s help but never really understand His grace. God loved so much He gave HIs Son, Jesus, to die and be raised from the dead. Not just before we’re sinners, but because we are so valuable in His eyes. How valuable? The price He paid, the blood of Jesus, His Son.

Lord, help us believe in You wholeheartedly and receive everything blessing You want to send us, in Jesus’ name. Amdn.
