"Good Guys"

The cowboy was the good guy,

The outlaws came to dread,

They might end up in prison,

Or maybe even dead.

So when it came down to it,

The white hats always won,

Whether it was fisticuffs,

Or with that old six gun.

The good guy always got the girl,

Unless he rode away,

Into the evenin’ sunset,

Her wishing he would stay.

You might imagine my surprise,

When life kicked me around,

Didn’t follow that old plot,

But instead I found,

That sometimes bad guys were the ones,

Who never could be stopped,

The black hats even got the girl,

And the cowboy hero dropped.

Happened often and enough,

I lost my cowboy dream,

Pretty much gave up the hope,

Of the good beats evil theme.

But then one day God spoke to me,

About the plan He had,

And though this world Is hellish,

And has gotten really bad,

There still are cowboy heroes,

Who follow God above,

And they are winning battles,

With Jesus’ name and love.

Still rescue those fair damsels,

And protect their lives from harm,

And know when all is finished,

Because of God’s strong arm,

Evil will be vanquished,

And death itself will end,

And all because of Jesus,

Who says we are His friend.

So pull down that old white hat,

And saddle up to ride,

Because the day is coming,

When no outlaw can hide.

Every knee will bow to Him,

And every tongue confess,

So fill your heart and fill your hand,

‘Cause God will give success.

“…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10-11, NIV)

Paul points to the climatic moment predicted by scripture that celebrates God’s ultimate triumph over evil. One day all will acknowledge Jesus, and until then it is our mission to share the Good News with everyone! We live under His Lordship now, advertising the righteousness, peace, and joy of God’s Kingdom. Paul writes that every enemy will submit, and the final to be conquered will be death itself. No matter what happens or how challenging the evil of this world becomes, never fear. Never doubt the fact that God wil have the final say.

Lord, help us to live under Your lordship now in anticipation of when all will bow and confess, in Jesus’ name.
