"Home"
Out horseback on the prairies,
You’re given time to think,
And even say a prayer or two,
The Lord unties a kink,
That you’ve had in your thinkin’,
Like you might have with your rope,
And if you let it bother,
It sure can steal your hope.
I’m talkin’ ‘bout the questions,
That we all have at times,
Like why the problems happen,
And give us endless climbs.
Like accidents and illness,
And weather gone extreme,
And folks they’ll be a-prayin’,
But do no good it seems.
And some old rowdy devil,
Who doesn’t give a rip,
Will get away with something,
On his ego trip.
And so one has to wonder,
Lord, why is it this way,
The world seems out of kelter,
What do you have to say?
I listen while I’m ridin’,
I open all my heart,
I give Him what I’m thinkin’,
I want to do my part.
And then His peace comes o’er me,
Not based on answers why,
But trusting Him entirely,
With all that goes awry.
Some things are the devil,
And some just human choice,
Some part of this fallen world,
And some just ‘cause God’s voice,
Is drowned out by the volume,
Of this world’s screaming ads,
The very thing we need to hear,
Replaced by all that’s bad.
We’ll know what we need to,
As God makes more things clear,
But till then we’ll trust Him,
And try to follow near.
Out there on the prairies,
Horseback all alone,
I sometimes hear the answer,
It’s that you’re not quite home.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him. But it was to us God revealed these things by His Spirit…” (1 Cor. 2:9-10, NLT)
Much of life is a mystery. We all have questions that we cannot answer. Making peace with these questions can be very challenging, especially if we’re dealing with some kind of trouble or tragedy. Why doesn’t God show up and fix everything? Truth is, God is preparing something so much better that we cannot even imagine how wonderful, and things will not be fully resolved until then. All enemies will one day submit to Jesus, every wrong will be made right, and every tear will be wiped away. Our expectation is informed by what the Scriptures teach and the personal revelation of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gives us a taste of what otherwise is God’s own secret, and what will ultimately be. We aren’t home yet, but we’re going. That’s what matters most.
Lord, help us to trust You with every question we have, in Jesus’ name.
