"Homegoing"
I’m going to my Father’s,
Where they’ve said I have a place,
No more of this world’s bothers,
I’m bound to see His face.
But before I take my leavin’,
I want all of you to know,
That though you might be grievin’,
There’s lots of joy to show.
‘Cause where it is I’m goin’,
Was chosen just for me,
And all the seeds of sowin’,
Will harvest there you see.
This life is just a whisper,
But that life is a shout,
Here at times we missed her,
But there we’re Bride full-out.
And nothing that has gone before,
Means much of anything,
Unless it’s Spirit to the core,
And gives glory to our King.
And so much of this life,
I’ve sweetly shared with you,
God blessed me a good wife,
But she still knows it’s true,
That precious in the Lord’s eyes,
Is that homegoing day,
When a child of God dies,
And all I have to say,
Is I am ready for that dawning,
Whenever it may come,
And till then I’m longing,
For when my time is done.
“ Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but He has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as He is pure.” (1 John 3:2-3, NLT)
The Christian life is one of eager anticipation. That’s because we know our home is in heaven, not this world. We’re just passing through, as the old song says. If we have a heavenly focus it does not mean we are ineffective in this life. It simply means we know this life is all about the next. Whether Jesus comes back or we die, we go into the presence of the Lord to await our ultimate reward from Him. It is not the threat of hell that makes us holy. It’s the hope of heaven. Think about that.
Lord, help us eagerly anticipate the life to come, in Jesus’ name.
