"I Don't Know"

Call me slow, but I don’t know,

The older that I get,

I realize though, so far to go,

But I am growing yet.

Used to be it bothered me,

The questions that I had,

Afraid someone would ask me one,

And I’d come off looking bad.

But humility trumps pride, you see,

When we say we just don’t know,

And that’s okay ‘cause Jesus’ way,

Does not require we show,

Our expertise, just God’s release,

Grace overcoming fears,

A need to know and God will show,

Through good times and our tears.

That He is Lord and never bored,

We follow Him in faith,

His presence real and we can feel,

His Spirit sets the pace.

Can’t say why the angry sky,

Will cause such tragedy,

But God above works all in love,

For the good of you and me.

It’s a mystery when hurt, you see,

With wounds too great to bear,

But God will heal and here’s the deal,

Forgiveness we can share.

When evil men, they still can win,

While good ones suffer on,

I can’t say why but just good-bye,

One day He’ll right that wrong.

And why don’t all heed God’s strong call

When Jesus died to save,

He gave them choice, won’t heed His voice,

Though all His love He gave.

I don’t know when Christ comes again,

But I believe He will,

Some think He’s near and almost here,

I’m ready, that’s the deal.

Like I said, though the Book I’ve read,

So much I do not know,

But in His hands I place my plans,

And with Him I will go.

“If anyone supposes that he knows anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know; but if anyone loves God, he is known by Him.” (1 Corinthians 8:2-3, NAS)

Knowledge can really get to be a problem. Why? Because of our attitude about it. We all know people who’ve forgotten more than the rest of us know, and they’re arrogant because of it. Paul said that knowledge can make one arrogant or as the old translation says, “puffed up.” It’s been call the “bee-stung syndrome” when people are all swelled up with themselves. Knowledge can make one prideful but love edifies. Spiritual maturity is not measured by what we know but by how well we love. Make peace with the mystery of unanswered questions and focus on loving people.

Lord, help us trust You with what we don’t know, in Jesus’ name.
