"Kids"

Our little boys and little girls,

Need to know we care,

Show ‘em kindness every day,

And that we’re always there.

We need to give ‘em boundaries,

Teach ‘em right from wrong,

Don’t be afraid to discipline,

‘Cause that shows they belong,

To us and gives security,

Designed to keep ‘em safe,

Don’t tolerate rebellion,

Though they might fuss and chafe.

Tough love is the best love,

‘Cause it casts out foolishness,

Bound up in that kiddo’s heart,

And no doubt it’s the best,

Way to bring ‘em up right,

Good manners and behavior,

And if we are faithful,

Will point them to the Savior.

Raise up a child with Jesus,

Sow in that gospel seed,

And it will bring a harvest,

And meet their soul’s deep need.

And finally we send ‘em out,

To find their life and go,

But we will always love ‘em,

In all ways let them know,

That no matter what they do,

What we promise them assures,

That in our eyes they’re special,

Our love for them endures.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

Parents are the ones primarily responsible for spiritually discipling their children. But God will use anyone who is willing to be used by Him in this effort. It’s important to begin with them as young as possible to plant eternal seeds into their souls. Most take seriously providing for their children’s needs, but some abdicate when it comes to their spiritual training. They say things like my parents made me go to church so I’m not forcing mine. Truth is, church is only one important component. But children have to be led and cannot be left to their own wishes and desires. A generation without discipline will produce a long future of dysfunction. Train them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Do it, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, help us train the children, in Jesus’ name.
