"Lawman"
He gallops by and outlaws try,
To duck their heads unseen,
A lawman true, knows what to do,
‘Cause God knows where he’s been.
A-ridin’ tall, not one to brawl,
But does all that it takes,
To get his man, you know he can,
With very few mistakes.
They may run far, that’s how they are,
But with faster horses he,
Outruns the best, to their distress,
In handcuffs soon they’ll be.
He will not boast, nor ever coast,
On reputation’s cred,
But humbly serves, with steely nerves,
Shows action, not words said.
Hero to some, but not all come,
To honor what he does,
It’s clear to see, they don’t agree,
His enforcement ways because,
Their lawless hearts and evil smarts,
See him standing in their way,
He’ll do what’s right and take the fight,
To those who disobey.
Rangers strong, they still belong,
To those who love the law,
Persistent still, they always will,
And speedy on the draw.
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:13, NIV)
Some of the most memorable stories of western history involves legendary lawmen who did what was needed during lawless times. Bass Reeves and others come to mind. When we fast forward to our current circumstances, there still is a need for courageous first responders. And the scriptures call every believer to a life of uncompromising courage. Will we stand firm against evil or cave in to its deceptions and demands? God is calling us to be strong. Let us step up, in Jesus’ name.
Lord, give us courage, in Jesus’ name.
