"Mojo"

He put the mojo on him,

It’s what they used to say,

When they roped a fast one,

Before he got away.

I heard it in the pasture,

And at the rodeo,

And at all the ropings,

I wanted more you know.

Because if you had it,

You hardly ever missed,

And, brother, I sure missed ‘em,

And old bad luck had kissed,

Me square right in the kisser,

Though I tried to get away,

And, yes, I still still could catch ‘em,

But sometimes took all day.

But this is what I found out,

The older that I got,

If I wanted more mojo,

I had to rope a lot.

The ones that showed the mojo,

Were disciplined and tried,

To get horseback often,

Stay with their rope and ride.

And there I find the lesson,

‘Bout how God deals with me,

‘Cause sometimes I am waitin’,

On His mojo, don’t you see.

And please don’t make me listen,

Or seek His face and pray,

Just drop the mojo on me,

Hit God’s lotto cheap today.

Well, He wants me movin’,

And doin’ what He says,

And if I will obey Him,

He promises to bless.

In life there are no shortcuts,

So if you want mojo,

Trust the Holy Spirit,

To energize your go.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you…” (Acts 1:8, NLT)

The closest thing to “mojo” for a Christian is the power of the Holy Spirit. But, even then, we are required to cooperate. Those who are constantly expecting God to do what they themselves should be doing are in for a long wait. The spiritual lotto mentality will not do. Life with Jesus is all about seeking His will on a daily basis and obeying Him in the most obvious ways. This positions us to receive the energizing power of the Holy Spirit which will flow through us to do what we otherwise could never accomplish. But it’s all about availability to God’s mission and purpose. May the Lord show us the difference.

Lord, give us Your mojo, in Jesus’ name.
