"More"
I had a plate of chicken fried steak,
Thought I’d founder ‘fore I left,
But then said hi to some cocoanut pie,
It added to my heft.
And then I thought I won’t be caught,
Eatin’ like that again,
But don’t you know, I did although,
Knew more would be a sin.
So many things are good it seems,
But too much makes ‘em bad,
Eat or sleep or cash you keep,
And God knows what we’ve had.
So learn control, and take ahold,
And learn to moderate,
And then you see, you will be free,
The good to celebrate.
“Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.” (1 Timothy 6:17, NAS)
We might automatically think this verse doesn’t apply to us because we are not wealthy. But the average American has so much more than most. God has given us all good things to enjoy. That’s a fact. But when we are consumed by simply wanting or accumulating more, we miss the point of God’s blessing. It’s for us to enjoy and also enjoy giving away. To be generous is to be godly and enables us to better enjoy what we have.
Prayer: Lord, help us be as generous with others as You have been with us, in Jesus’ name.
