"Noise"
Heifers moo and horses neigh,
And chickens squawk and peck,
But people make the loudest noise,
And cause the biggest wreck.
The noisier that people get,
The more they think they know,
But the opposite is true,
For all who yearn to grow,
Past the loudest and the often mad,
To the quiet heart and voice,
Who finally stopped to realize,
That we all have a choice.
And God calls to the quiet,
And says we’ll know when still,
That He is to be honored,
In Jesus name His will.
So find the quiet place away,
From the noisy culture’s crowd,
The still, small voice His whisper,
As our hearts and knees are bowed.
“So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fail.” (Hebrews 4:9-11, NLT)
The Israelites who were led out of Egypt by the miraculous hand of God were not allowed to enter the promised land because of their disobedience. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that in the new covenant God offers a special “rest” to His people. If we obey the Lord and receive His grace, we will not only be saved but will be empowered to live a Spirit-filled life. This life is dramatically different from the noisy, chaotic life promoted by our secular culture. Find the quiet. Claim the rest. Do it now.
Lord, give us Your quiet rest, in Jesus’ name.
