"Not Always"
The prayers that I’m praying,
God gives answers it’s true,
Not always what I mentioned,
But whenever they do,
I am thrilled and expectant,
Over all that I pray,
He knows how He’ll answer,
But I don’t always.
I’m not always faithful,
Sometimes hit or miss,
But God will have mercy,
His Word tells me this.
And He blesses endurance,
And all those who seek,
And if we listen,
We’ll hear Him speak.
But not always I hear Him,
And sometimes it’s because,
He requires us to faith it,
It’s one of His laws,
To obey when we’re certain,
And when we’re unsure,
Not always with answers,
But just keep our hearts pure.
And sometimes the love flows,
It’s easy, you see,
To share it with others,
No doubt you’ll agree,
But not always ‘cause some folks,
Ain’t easy to love,
And that’s when we count on,
God’s help from above.
The Book says we’re anchored,
In the Lord and His power,
The same yesterday and always,
And hour by hour.
But I’m not always steady,
Though I’m praying to be,
To always be ready,
When He calls out to me.
Never leaves or forsakes us,
With us to the end,
I’m not always thankful,
But I should be, my friend.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, NLT)
The great anchor of our lives is Jesus Christ who is always the same- yesterday, today and forever. For this reason we can always trust Him to do what He’s promised. Some of us have had the unfortunate experience of being disappointed by those who promised one thing and did another. Perhaps if we’re honest we can discern times when we broke promises as well. But Jesus is the ultimate promise-keeper. If we turn to Him with humility His grace is there for every need. This is especially true when we are going through some sort of personal crisis- the death of a loved one, a traumatic disappointment, a medical issue- or whatever. The Lord is ever-present, will never leave or forsake, and is completely trustworthy. He is the anchor indeed!
Lord, anchor our lives, in Jesus’ name.
