"Old-fashioned"

They call it plumb old-fashioned,

When someone says that’s wrong,

The good is tightly rationed,

By those who run so long,

From God and all He stands for,

They always find excuse,

Escaping out some back door,

Their morals running loose.

And what they do not realize,

Is the mess they’re really in,

And every single compromise,

Drives ‘em farther into sin.

But there’s some really good news,

It’s there for all to hear,

That Jesus paid our past dues,

And brought salvation near.

And when we get His pardon,

There comes His power, too,

Melts the hearts that harden,

And fills with what is true.

So don’t fear the old-fashioned,

For the Ancient of all days,

Sets fire to the impassioned,

And graces us always

“As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into His presence. He was given authority, honor and sovereignty over all the nations of the world…” (Daniel 7:13-14, NLT)

Daniel saw Jesus being given the place of honor by God the Father, the “Ancient of Days.” The point is that recognizing and serving the one true God transcends all of human history and our own experience of time. He is the great, eternal One who has always been and whose Kingdom has no end. All that is temporary in this world is absolute nonsense when compared to the high adventure of knowing God and making Him known. Let us be done with the trivial and sophomoric fascination with this world’s counterfeits and finally live for the real thing.

Lord, help us embrace the eternal adventure with You, in Jesus’ name.
