"Over the Hill"

There’s over the rainbow,

And way over yonder,

All kinds of overs,

That we all can ponder.

When someone gets over,

And they mean over it,

They won’t take another,

Hour or minute,

Of nonsense or trouble,

Or any more trash,

They’ve gotten so over,

And are done with the clash.

But of all the overs,

The one that gets me,

Is when they are talkin’,

‘Bout older you see.

Can’t do what you used to,

You’re over the hill,

Hit like a speed bump,

And thought not until,

I can’t get horseback,

But as long as I can,

I will be out there,

And this is my plan,

To cowboy for Jesus,

While I have breath,

And live full-out open,

Till the day of my death.

And when you have heard it,

That I have passed on,

Gone from the saddle,

To sing heaven’s song,

I’ll be more alive,

Than ever you see,

I’ll ride the big circle,

For all eternity.

Over the hill?

No, not one bit,

My heart is still beating,

And I’ll never quit.

“For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better…” (Phil. 1:21, NLT)

Living, to really be alive, means we have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that infuses us with His power and presence. Jesus is the author of life, and by being connected with Him we experience the joy of life indeed. Apart from Him, ours is more of a death than lifestyle. But with Jesus, our physical life is filled with the Holy Spirit, who gives us personal freedom and joy. Then, when we die physically, we pass directly into His presence in the eternal realm. That’s why Paul’s testimony is that to die is gain, or even better, because it is a mere doorway into God’s unhindered, undiluted presence. Living is all about Jesus and dying is even better because it’s about being with Him, too.

Lord, teach us the true meaning of life, in Jesus’ name.
