"Poser"
Not sure if others feel this way,
But here’s what’s true of me,
Outside the group and that old loop,
I always felt, you see.
Been horseback now my entire life,
And know the cowboy way,
But thoughts I think can make me shrink,
I’m not okay, they say.
I’m aware of braggarts,
Who self-promote their skills,
They make me sick and pretty quick,
My heart with anger fills.
Why should they be honored,
And then again why not,
They have the gall to make the call,
Despite what they ain’t got.
So I’ll make this confession,
Honest, say what’s true,
My confidence and cowboy sense,
Has not one thing to do,
With what these posers get done,
With those whom they can snow,
Just focus in on right now when,
God’s will for me I know.
Seek first God’s own Kingdom,
And let Him add the rest,
Stay on track and don’t look back,
With His help do my best,
To give away His mercy,
Just like He gave to me,
Cowboy up and never duck,
What He says I can be.
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need…” (Mt. 6:33, NLT)
When we’re tempted to compare ourselves to others, especially those who’re doing well undeservedly in our eyes, things can turn wrong on many levels. We can become envious, jealous, and downright mean about it. It springs from a selfish sense of entitlement, one that inwardly eggs us on to complain about what we deserve but aren’t getting, while others are. We need an attitude adjustment from the Spirit, who will remind us that we should never compare ourselves to others. Rather we should focus on the top priority of life as set forth by Jesus. He said we should seek God’s Kingdom above all else. That would include all notions of success and accomplishment. Let God rule us, and He has promised to add to our lives every single thing we need. That’s powerful, and should give us a sense of great relief. It can. It does. It always will.
Lord, help us to seek Your Kingdom above all else, in Jesus’ name.
