"Sadness"
The sadness used to come each day,
‘Bout when the sun went down,
I’d think I’ve lost another one,
It often had me bound.
And not because of tragedy,
Or that something bad occurred,
Like a fog clung to my feelings,
Without a single word.
A heaviness, a burden,
It would not let me go,
And I was too embarrassed,
To ever let it show.
Just cowboy up and let things go,
I’d speak it right out loud,
But what I did just didn’t work,
It had me really cowed.
Finally I got some help,
From those who understood,
Body, soul and spirit,
And all of it was good.
And now when sadness comes along,
I own it face to face,
But with God’s help it goes away,
And doesn’t slow my pace.
So if you’resad and don’t know why,
This is my prayer for you,
To go and get the help you need,
And call on Jesus, too.
“Therefore we do not lose heart, but though out outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day,” (2 Corinthians 4:16, NAS)
Christians are not immune to depression. It can be caused by spiritual, emotional or physical factors. The truth is that God will lead us to the help we need if we’re willing to be honest and admit our need. In an ultimate sense God wants to give us peace and keep us steady by His grace. He is the great healer, and can give us what we need to overcome the blues. Don’t fight the battle alone. Get help.
Lord, help us get the help we need to overcome depression.
