"Savior"

And so the word, He spoke they heard,

With these remember Me,

The bread and cup, with them to sup,

And to finally see,

His sacrifice, so great a price,

To pay for what we’ve done,

A new command from His own hand,

To love just like the Son.

Wash their feet, the stranger meet,

And for the least of these,

Help and serve, don’t lose your nerve,

But live so as to please,

The One who fought, with His blood bought,

All from satan’s grip,

His grace our gain, and in His name,

The Father’s hand won’t slip.

Upon the cross, all our great loss,

Restored by heaven’s zeal,

To claim the one who far had run,

To make salvation real.

O love my heart, though torn apart,

By Your mercy so out-poured,

Eternally I’ll praise, you see,

My Savior and my Lord.

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body given for you; do this in remembrance of Me. ‘ In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.” (Luke 22:19-20, NIV)

Jesus pointed His disciples to the bread and wine as ways to remember His body and blood. Why is this important? Not so as to create a religious ceremony, but rather to invite a spiritual experience. There is no magic in the bread or the cup. They are symbols of an unseen spiritual reality that is life-changing. It is the power of salvation, brought about by the suffering and death of Jesus. Those who call on the name of the Lord are saved. And when we remember what Christ has done for us, we examine ourselves and renew our commitment to the One who died to make it so.

Lord, help us remember, in Jesus’ name.
