"Say When"
Can you say when it happened,
And God made sure you’re sure,
Or do you sometimes wonder,
And struggle to endure.
Some folks know they’re trying,
Working hard to be,
What they think the Lord wants,
But still don’t ever see,
That as long as they control it,
And it’s all up to them,
It’s like a roller-coaster,
They should give up to Him.
And if they’ll ever let go,
He can make them certain,
By the witness of His Spirit,
Until life’s final curtain.
So don’t make this a hope so,
Or some I’m trying hard,
God wants us to know it,
And know He’s punched our card.
If you believe in Jesus,
And confess He’s Lord of you,
He will fill your heart with peace,
And this is always true.
Don’t live one more day hoping,
Like maybe, maybe not,
But surrender all to Jesus,
And sure is what you got!
“And God has given us His Spirit as proof that we live in Him and He lives in us.” (1 John 4:13, NLT)
God says in His Word that there is only one way a person can be totally sure they are in a saving relationship with Him. What way is that, you ask? God has promised that we will receive from Him the assurance we need. He will give us His Spirit, and His Spirit will make us certain. Sounds good, but how does that work exactly? It works when we surrender to Him. As long as we think it’s about some aspect of our own obedience or performance, we can never really be sure. But when we surrender ourselves without reservation, He says He will make us sure. We exchange control for certainty. How did God make you sure? Say when and how it happened. It needs to be shared, for sure.
Lord, make us sure and then help us to share our assurance with others, in Jesus’ name.
