"See"
There amongst the shadows,
Something you rarely see,
A doe and fawn together,
He’s nursing happily.
There, now can you see him,
My Dad would point him out,
There, so still and hidden,
A cotton-tail, no doubt.
I heard a screech a -calling,
The hawk upon the wing,
As if he said, don’t miss me,
It just beat everything.
A-searching there all morning,
For steers that got away,
We almost rode right past ‘em,
In the thicket where they lay.
But keenly our boss cowboy,
Saw what I did not see,
And, brother, that’s the reason,
He was top hand, not me.
We’re far enough from city lights,
That it gets dark out here,
But when you look into the sky,
The stars seem oh so near.
Their brilliance and their movement,
Will help you know how small,
Is all we know and really see,
Just a thimble-full is all.
Early on one morning,
It happened just last week,
The sun had barely risen,
Looked out to take a peak.
Two splashes there of crimson,
On a pallet colored gray,
Two cardinals a-singin’,
For the longest time they stayed.
I just saw a moonrise,
Rise o’er those Texas plains,
Big and round and orange,
With shades I could not name.
I thought who else sees this,
I’m sure so many more,
Remembered times I missed it,
Too busy, but what for?
And some, they never see it,
The beauty that is there,
The hidden little wonders,
And big as sky God shares.
They simply do not recognize,
The artist or His art,
And I am often guilty,
But pray that I can start,
To wake up to the moment,
Of the flying mane and tail,
Don’t try to over-think it,
Just watch ‘em and don’t fail,
To see, then really see it,
Thank God for what you see,
Look for God’s own beauty,
Designed for you and me.
“When I look at the night sky and see the work of Your fingers- the moon and the stars You set in place, what are mere mortals that you should think about them…” (Psalm 8:3-4, NLT)
The awesome beauty of the creation points to the great Creator! The Psalmist wondered how such a God could even think of mere mortals, yet He does. In fact the Bible describes the Creator as a tender parent who delights in His children and is the giver of every good and perfect gift. He is the generous author of undeserved favor, mercy, forgiveness and redemption. And all the beauty of creation reflects the beauty of His amazing grace. He offers to make our lives beautiful as well. Don’t miss the art, and please don’t miss the Artist!
Lord, we praise You for the beauty of creation and the beauty of Your redeeming love, in Jesus’ name.
