"Seed"
I can hardly see it,
So small a stretch to be it,
But if God will decree it,
You know it must be true.
The seed is microscopic,
But if we go endoscopic,
It contains the topic,
What we will one day view.
It says each seed that we sow,
Will someday sprout and then grow,
Into a crop that we know,
Started with one seed.
And as in all life’s choices,
Amid competing voices,
And distracting noises,
We ask the Lord to lead.
‘Cause every time we plant one,
For good or ill what goes on,
Is the consequence, it is done,
By just the thing we choose.
So plant seeds to the Spirit,
And never need to fear it,
The planted seed will steer it,
And we will never lose.
Because of what we choose,
We don’t have to lose.
“…You will always harvest what you plant…” (Gal. 6:7, NLT)
Every choice is like a seed we plant which contains the DNA of the consequences of the choice. It’s one of those principles which is always true. You reap what you sow. It’s a hard lesson to learn, but maturity occurs when you can actually connect the dots before you choose something. When we become wise and deliberate and God-led about what we choose, the odds go way up that the consequences will be favorable. We will be sowing righteous seeds to the Spirit, with righteous results. It’s what the scriptures call a “harvest of blessing.” Some want God to show up and do magic. They have sown bad seeds and are now reaping a bad harvest, and want God to reverse the harvest and give them something better. He doesn’t. He forgives. He helps us learn from our mistakes. But the answer to having a different harvest comes when we begin planting differing seeds. Righteous choices lead to righteous consequences. We harvest what we sow.
Lord, help us get righteous seeds planted, in Jesus’ name.
