"She Wed a Cowboy"

His mama wed a cowboy,

He scarce knew what to think,

He prayed her life she would enjoy,

But sometimes hope would sink.

‘Cause the courtship was a brief one,

They vowed at a rodeo,

He wondered if what they had done,

Would last, how could they know.

But seems they loved each other,

And God was in the mix,

And let me tell you, brother,

He sure knew how to fix,

What was missing with his mother,

And the cowboy’s dream come true,

No doubt there was no other,

For a life of “I love you.”

So the cowboy is his step-dad,

As as strange as it can be,

It’s the blessing that the Lord had,

Planned for him to see.

What God has joined together,

Let no one split apart,

The Lord’s bond none should sever,

For He joins them heart to heart.

“And He said, ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.’” (Matthew 19:5-6, NLT)

Jesus is quoting the book of Genesis when they asked Him about divorce. It’s God’s plan to unite people in marriage, a union that should be respected. Human weakness and sin have made divorce commonplace with disastrous results. God is gracious and full of forgiveness and mercy for this and all other human failings. That said, we should value, honor and defend everything that God brings together in His perfect will. He binds us together with mentors, brothers and sisters in Christ, our spouses, our families as well as all other partners in Christ. This unity of the Spirit evokes great blessing and becomes a powerful witness to the world.

Lord, help us never divide what You unite, in Jesus’ name.
