"Spirit-filled"

The cowboy rode with dignity,

The difference you could see,

Dead opposite of wanna-be,

And always kind to me.

Savvy with the cattle,

Soft handed on the rein,

Rode the horse, not just the saddle,

And quietly spoke words plain.

And I’ll say I admired him,

But he was a mystery,

Hard work never tired him,

Though he always was carefree.

One night he volunteered it,

He could tell that I was down,

I was glad that I could hear it,

And that he had come around.

He said the Good Lord brought relief,

When he needed it the most,

And if I had the right belief,

In Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,

I could find what I’d always sought,

And tried so hard to fill,

Jesus paid the price and bought,

To give the greatest deal.

Forgiveness for our every sin,

And know that when we die,

A whole new life will then begin,

In our home above the sky.

He was the first I ever saw,

A cowboy Spirit-filled,

He really showed me what to do,

In prayer my life was healed.

So never doubt what God can do,

When the Spirit takes control,

Sets us free by what is true,

And fills the cowboy soul.

“And do not get drunk with wine which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:18, NKJV)

The Bible compares the Spirit to wind, flame and water, and the part of God who interacts with us personally. He has always been with us and comes to live within when we give our lives to Jesus. It is then His goal to fill us continuously with His presence and power. When the Spirit fills us the life of Jesus lives through us. We do what we otherwise could never do because He enables and energizes us. It is God’s will that we live completely and consistently under His influence. The Spirit-filled life is the only victorious Christian life possible. But it is within our reach.

Lord, fill us with Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
