"Strait"
I’ll admit I sometimes sit,
And think about just why,
Good horses rode, the best I’ve knowed,
Seem to be the ones that die.
When I saw Strait come through the gate,
I knew I’d take him home,
Did what I asked with every task,
A dun with touch of chrome.
And through those years, that brought sad tears,
That horse was such a friend,
And I’ll confide, with every ride,
It was good that time to spend.
Life changed a lot, and then I got,
A Texas open door,
My own place with pasture space,
Couldn’t ask for any more.
And Strait came, too, I’m telling you,
My Bama horse and fine,
Without a doubt we found the route,
To what the Lord designed.
But then he’s sick, it came too quick,
I had to put him down,
That day relive, and what I’d give,
To have him come around.
Cancer kills, with sorrow fills,
I have to let it go,
But on some days, the sun’s last rays,
Take me back, you know,
When he’d trot up and smell my cup,
Just looking for a bite,
And with some treat, I’d let him eat,
And then I’d say good night.
I don’t know when I will go,
To heaven’s golden shore,
But God’s Book true, says horses do,
At least there will be more,
Who thunder down from that far ground,
When Jesus comes again,
I just might see, Old Strait ‘cause he,
Could gallop with ‘em then.
“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the the things we cannot see will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:18, NLT)
Life has its sad moments, but we look past them. How? By reminding ourselves that the trials and troubles of life are temporary. God’s Book says it won’t always be this way, and what we cannot see is more real than what we can. There is an eternity coming where every tear is wiped away and Jesus reigns supremely. Every blessing of this life will be magnified there, and in the end, that’s all that matters. Look heavenward and live.
Lord, help us look past our sadness and rejoice in Your ultimate victory, in Jesus’ name.
