"That-a-Way"
Which way did you see ‘em go,
That’s what they always asked,
The standers by, all standing there,
About those who rode past.
And the answer came so clearly,
They said it every time,
They pointed and said that-a-way,
Sometimes ‘cause of a crime,
That had been committed,
With the good guys in pursuit,
Of the bad guys wearing black hats,
And that’s, by gosh, the truth.
Which way are you going,
And which way did you go,
The way is so important,
It leads somewhere, you know.
Men of old who walked by faith,
Didn’t know where they would end,
All they knew was take a step,
And their journey would begin.
The need to know was all they knew,
And God had told them go,
And so they packed it up and left,
Their faith by action show.
To a land that I will show you,
That’s all God said to Abe,
And he went out not knowing,
Just the simple word God gave.
To the slaves who lived in Egypt,
He said the Promised Land,
But then out there with Moses,
They got lost in the sand.
‘Cause though the milk and honey,
Sounded good to them,
They also found some giants,
Too scared to fight and win.
Jesus talked about it,
Said there’s a narrow way,
And I will meet you in it,
So you don’t go astray.
Through every single valley,
I will your shepherd be,
My sheep will hear Me speaking,
And they will follow Me.
He even said, I am the way,
The truth, and yes, the life,
The only way to God above,
The one escape from strife.
And Paul, he said to walk by faith,
And not by what you see,
Faith’s sure of what we hope for,
Before it comes to be.
Which way did you see ‘em go,
That’s always what they asked,
I pray by grace it’s “that-a-way,”
And heaven’s home at last.
“Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.’” (John 14:6, NLT).
Sometimes people are offended by this claim Jesus made about Himself. The claim is clear and simple. He said that He didn’t just speak the truth, but He WAS the truth. He didn’t just come to show people how to live, He said that He WAS life itself. He didn’t just come to point to the way, He claimed to BE the way. And further, the only way to the Father. If Jesus was wrong about this, He was wrong about everything. If He wasn’t who He claimed to be, but thought He was, the only conclusion is that He was unbalanced. If He wasn’t and knew so, then He was the biggest liar the world has ever known. But if He is the WAY, as He claimed, God is making it simple for us. The way matters. Choose wisely.
Lord, help us to accept and follow You as the way to the Father, in Jesus’ name.
