"The Blood"
Sometimes in the evenin’,
When my spirit cannot breathe,
Memories are ragged,
And my feelins’ roll and seethe.
I think of all I’ve wasted,
And cannot get it back,
The hearts of people wounded,
‘Cause I was not on track.
Remember sins a-many,
And excuses I have made,
When others tried to help me,
I didn’t make the grade.
It would be overwhelming,
If it weren’t for just one thing,
And that’s the blood of Jesus,
That to me sure hope can bring.
It’s not that I’m excusing,
The things that I have done,
Or that I am recusing,
Or from my issues run.
It’s just that I am counting,
On God’s eternal grace,
For all of my forgiveness,
And help to run the race.
I cast all of the burdens,
Of what I could have done,
At the feet of Jesus,
God’s one and only Son.
And say, Lord, take my messes,
And make a message there,
Heal all my regresses,
A testimony share.
That will give hope to someone,
Who otherwise gives up,
And this will be the very thing,
That helps refill their cup.
My only boast is Jesus,
My only hope His grace,
Though last one to deserve it,
In heaven see His face.
“It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God…” (1 Peter 1:19, NLT)
There’s power in the blood of Jesus. Some have criticized Christianity for being a “slaughterhouse” religion, obsessed with blood and death. Truth is, life itself is directly associated with blood, both physically and spiritually. The scriptures actually tell us that life is in the blood, and that was long before medical science discovered it was true. Why do we say there is power in the blood of Jesus? It’s not because His physical suffering was so horrendous, though it was. It is because of the significance God places upon the sacrifice of His Son. According to the Scriptures, the blood of Christ was necessary as a substitutionary ransom or atonement or payment for our sins, both satisfying God’s judgment and our desperate need. When one personally accepts this sacrifice, admitting their inability to be saved apart from this unique intervention, God’s Spirit personally gives us the gift of pardon, and with it, eternal life. It’s the best news on earth.
Lord, apply the blood to our lives, and then help us to let others know, in Jesus’ name
