"Tired"

So tell me how tired are you,

As tired as I can be,

I’d say I am exhausted,

And really spent, you see.

Are you as tired as that time,

Nightfall caught us out,

And we could not the trail find,

Until daybreak no doubt.

Or ‘member when that new truck,

Broke down, what a sight,

Fifty miles from anywhere,

A-horseback all that night.

Or when we stuck your trailer,

Took us all day then,

To dig out of the ice and snow,

And get back home again.

What about that time, brother,

When my old pony fell,

And you had to sit up with me,

To make sure I was well.

Hey, is that you snoring,

I guess you’ve earned the right,

So many years of working,

Stayed at it day and night.

But listen to the Good Book,

And just remember this,

If your soul is weary,

I’ve heard His voice insist,

That He receives your burden,

And He restores your soul,

He renews the weary,

And strengthens and makes whole.

He even says if needed,

He’ll give us wings to fly,

We’ll run and not get weary,

He’ll energize our try.

So whether tired from working,

Or weary from life’s fight,

Get the rest you’ve needed,

And be strong in Jesus’ might.

“…those who trust in the Lord will find new strength…” (Isaiah 40:31, NLT)

Why do we need new strength? ‘Cause the old strength got used up. Where did it go? It was expended on whatever it was we were doing. Did you burn calories and time and energy on anything that mattered? Hope so. Most of us are so busy working on whatever it is we do for a living that we don’t have much time for life itself. Sometimes we can’t even remember what we did day before yesterday because it becomes such a blur of activity. Course not everyone. Some have mastered the art of of resting before they actually do anything, which is called laziness. But, back to the point. Have you noticed how tired people are? Have you noticed how exhausted young people get? The Bible says they will, but the Lord will renew them and the rest of us, too. This promise and others like it tell us that God really will strengthen us if we trust Him. Depending on Him, trusting Him, waiting on Him, believing in Him, surrendering control to Him are all ways we faith our way to new strength. Get some.

Lord, we exchange our exhaustion for Your strength, in Jesus’ name.
