"Tired"
Nothin’ wrong with getting’ tired,
For me it’s everyday,
Though my age has slowed me,
I still can earn my pay.
But resting ‘fore you even work,
Or always being tired,
Is not the way it’s s’posed to be,
And might just get you fired
Jesus said if you are weary,
Just find your way to Him,
‘Cause He relieves exhaustion,
No matter where you’ve been.
Offers you an easy yoke,
A burden that is light,
Compared to what you’re carrying,
And you will be all right.
‘Cause then His rest will calm you,
His peace rules way down deep,
It’s something you can count on,
His promises He’ll keep.
“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to Me, all of you who are weary, and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’” (Matthew 11:28, NLT)
People are exhausted by the burdens they carry. Sometimes it is addiction and all the chaos that goes with it. Sometimes it is emotional injuries and the baggage of unhealed hurt. Often it is the guilt and regret of living a selfish, sinful lifestyle. In any case, Jesus promises relief. If we are willing to surrender to His yoke and give up our egotism, He will give us a deep, abiding peace that cannot be stolen by the world. it’s an amazing exchange and one that is within reach.
Lord, help us exchange our exhaustion for Your rest, in Jesus’ name.
