"Today"
Some spend it looking forward,
To a future dream or plan,
And vision is important,
To inspire us that we can.
But now is all we really have,
Tomorrow has not come,
Until it does become today,
The moments by us run.
Some live in all their yesterdays,
The past is on their mind,
And wishing they could just go back,
In their history to find,
Something that they’re missing,
Or maybe that they lost,
Wishing they could get it back,
But losing now’s the cost.
Yesterday’s beyond our reach,
Tomorrow is not here,
The gift of God is called today,
To live it without fear.
Visit yesterday sometime,
And all its lessons learn,
But know when you should let it go,
And those old bridges burn.
Have a vision for tomorrow,
And ask God for His plan,
But when that old sun rises,
Go do all that you can.
“But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called ‘Today',’ so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” (Hebrews 3:13, NAS)
Paul talked about leaving behind his past and pressing on toward the prize of God’s calling. The writer of Hebrews emphasizes that the gift of today should be used to encourage one another. One thing is certain. God has called us to maximize the day and redeem the time. We have a choice to make everyday. We can get bogged down or we can rise up, by the grace of God. We can get lost in the weeds or we can stay focused. Keep on. Get up, Don’t give up and don’t slow down. Today is here. Live it.
Lord, help us maximize the day and encourage somebody, in Jesus’ name.
