"Trust"
If you tell someone what you will do,
But you change your mind and don’t,
Though you promise it is true,
And then you somehow won’t,
News gets out that you won’t keep,
What it was you said,
Your words are worthless, less than cheap,
Just lying loops instead.
And if you find someone who will,
Say and do the same,
Hold on to them, they fit the bill,
Of those deserving fame.
A treasure is someone to trust,
Because you know you can,
Though you might have to readjust,
Your thinking and your plan.
That’s because of times before,
The hard way you found out,
Disappointed to the core,
They show what they’re about.
Find the ones who speak and do,
And always keep their word,
God will show you who is true,
And worthy to be heard.
“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14, NLT)
The Psalmist prays that the Lord will help him with his thoughts and his words. Word have great power, for better or for worse. If our words please the Lord they will be matched by our actions. We will walk the walk and talk the talk because both are so important. Trust in relationships is based upon this very thing. If you make promises you don’t keep you will lost the trust of people, and you can’t blame them. It’s hard to ever get it back, though with God all things are possible. Be a promise-keeper, in Jesus’ name.
Lord, help us to keep our promises, in Jesus’ name.
