"Wait"

So much of life is waiting,

I’m doing so right now,

This time for an inspection,

Being patient I’ll allow,

Is really not my strong suit,

Lines, lights and delays,

Today not in a hurry,

Not like most of my days.

And usually it’s stressful,

I get anxious and uptight,

I know I should be chillin’,

Just tryin’ to get it right.

But people drive me crazy,

Sometimes I feel so done,

Why can’t they speed it up some,

‘Cause I am on the run.

Every time the Good Book says,

Son, you need to earn to wait,

I think yes, I know, Lord,

Please help me slow my gait.

There’s benefit in waiting,

There’s peace so I am told,

I’m gonna pray about it,

And really take ahold.

And when filled with the Spirit,

Patience is a fruit,

So I am asking for it,

To get down to the root,

Of why I’m so impatient,

It’s ‘cause I’m in a rush,

And what I really need to do,

Is get still and just hush.

Let go my to do list,

Commit to Him my day,

And let the Spirit set the pace,

And with it be okay.

Waiting is not easy,

But I’ll bet the more I do,

God’s timing gives the answer,

And I believe it’s true.

“Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” (Isaiah 40:31, NAS)

The promise to those who are willing to wait on the Lord is very powerful. Waiting does not render us passive, but rather renews us. We are given new strength to do what God has called us to do. When we get the timing right, grace meets us in the moment of opportunity and energizes ministry. We accomplish far more than we ever could through mere “busy-ness.” Some of us need to be delivered from our frenetic need to always be doing something. It’s good to take a breath and wait on the Lord. Then, get after it!

Lord, help us to wait on You, in Jesus’ name.
