"Whoop"
When that roper ties a fast one,
Or with horns and heels they’re quick,
When that rider tops a bucker,
And spurs with every kick,
I’m on my feet to holler,
And loudly let ‘em know,
That I enjoy the action,
Of the grand old rodeo.
If Bama scores a touchdown,
Like they did the other night,
Pick six to go the distance,
In a Tennesse dog fight,
I did not sit there calmly,
But was letting go a whoop,
And if you are offended,
I’m not sure that I’ll regroup.
‘Cause when I care I show it,
Not afraid to let you hear,
Loudly I participate,
Without a single fear.
And it’s just the same with Jesus,
I sometimes give a shout,
Fired up hallelujahs,
Are what praise is all about.
And if you’re quiet and proper,
With how you worship Him,
That’s okay with me I guess,
But I’ll go out on a limb,
And say you might just lighten up,
And celebrate with noise,
‘Cause the party of His love and grace,
Is filled with heaven’s joys.
Get back the shout that’s stolen,
Recover passions lost,
Full out give Him the glory,
And let all cares be tossed.
‘Cause better than the rodeo,
Or any football game,
Is worship of the King of kings,
And praises to His name.
Stand up and give God glory,
Shout loud and don’t sit down,
And all because He’s worthy,
Crown Him with many crowns.
“Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; break forth and sing for joy and sing praises.” (Psalm 98:4, NAS)
the Bible speaks of many ways to praise the Lord- shouting, singing, clapping, playing instruments, lifting our hands, and more. The point is not some sort of emotional legalism where we feel obligated to do certain “worshipful” things on cue. In fact it’s quite the opposite. When the Spirit is going we are liberated to express our thanks to the Lord spontaneously. So you don’t have to shout, but if you never shout you’re missing out. You don’t have to clap, but iff you never clap you might just try it. You don’t have to make a joyful noise, but maybe it’s overdue. It’s not so much how you do it but that you do it that counts the most. But here’s a tip: I suspect God likes it when we shout joyfully to Him.
Lord, help us shout Your praise, in Jesus’ name.
