"Why"

Life has unanswered questions,

Don’t know the reasons why,

Children die and mothers cry,

And old folks sit and sigh.

And though I am not finished,

Lived long enough to know,

There are some things that this life brings,

That cause great pain and show,

That even on our best days,

We need God’s extra grace,

Else we’re brought down, low to the ground,

And cannot stay in place.

I’ve seen the storms blow fiercely,

When all, it seemed, was lost,

Wind so fierce, that it would pierce,

Your heart, so strong it tossed.

Like some old buckin’ cayuse,

That never can be rode,

Just rank and mean, too wild it seems,

That’s all he ever showed.

Or out there where it’s brushy,

A searchin’ for that bull,

He charges out, so wild and stout,

You better catch, then pull.

And what, when your old ticker,

Starts flaring up in pain,

They take you in, to try to mend,

Your healthy beat regain.

And on and on life happens,

The good ones often die,

While bad guys live and constant give,

The rest of us their lie.

So, Lord, please help this cowboy,

And help the ones I love,

When they feel pain, to call Your name,

And find grace from above.

And, Lord, please help our country,

With people strugglin’ so,

To fight the fight, and do what’s right,

And help us all to know,

That though we cannot answer,

All questions that are asked,

You’re in control and truth be told,

Your grace will always last.

We give You all that’s painful,

And all our questions, too,

Help us to trust, in God we must,

It’s all that we can do.

“He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted…” (Isaiah 61:1, NLT)

This scripture is talking about what the Messiah will do when He comes. Jesus read from this scripture when He launched His earthly ministry in the home synagogue of Nazareth. He claimed to the home crowd that He was the fulfillment of this prophecy. But they didn’t receive the news well. In fact they attempted to kill Him! That was pretty harsh, don’t you think? The fact remains that life’s pain can only be healed by the Lord. He died and was raised, not only to forgive our sins but to heal our hurts. Life will never completely make sense to us, but we can choose to trust in His grace and that He ultimately is in control. Believe it.

Lord, heal our wounds and fill us with Your grace, in Jesus’ name.
