"Words"
Words blew in like long-lost kin,
Their visit a surprise,
With hugs and hope that helped me cope,
And with sweet love advise.
I never knew until they blew,
How much their truth would mean,
Until my friend said let them in,
I saw what he had seen.
That verse was mine if I’d align,
My thoughts with His, you see,
A constant flow, so strong although,
It was a gift to me.
And so, it goes and faithful shows,
If I will give the time,
They come so real and make me feel,
The rhythm and the rhyme,
Of phrases’ songs, where verse belongs,
And all to make a point,
That truth sets free, will always be,
What the Spirit will anoint.
Third person watch, no fear to botch,
What like the wind blows through,
The blessing yet is what we get,
What only God can do.
“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” (Romans 12:4-5, NLT)
The Church is the body of Christ on earth, and just as the human body has many different parts, so does Christ’s body. Our function in the body of Christ, then, is about what we are graced to do. All of us are gifted to serve the Lord, and it is by exercising our gifts that fulfill our purpose as His followers. We belong to Him and each other, and in the context of relationship and ministry we discover our spiritual gifts. When my friend suggested I had poems a few years ago I was clueless. But in time the Lord began to give me the words that became poems. That’s how I am able to write them each day. Whatever your gift the thing is to use it to glorify God and serve others. No matter the particulars, that’s what counts the most!
Lord, help us use our gifts to honor You and help one another, in Jesus’ name.
