"Advice"

What would I tell my younger self,

When I was just a youth,

What wisdom would I try to share,

Or emphasize what truth.

I think I’d say to try to live,

For Jesus everyday,

‘Cause it’s not what you take, but give,

With all you do and say.

And when, not if you fall and fail,

Get up with grace you can,

Don’t let regret your joy curtail,

And always your fire fan.

Get to know the Holy Spirit,

And on His power depend,

Whate’er the task don’t fear it,

There’s grace where He will send.

Give yourself to those who share,

Desire to do what’s right,

And walk away from those who dare,

To try and steal your light.

Ask for help, it’s quite okay,

‘Cause we all have that need,

But you need no one’s permission,

If the Spirit’s in the lead.

Rest and play and earn your way,

Don’t hold a grudge, forgive,

Live thankfully come what may,

It’s the only way to live.

And cowboy, go and be one,

‘Cause that’s what’s in your heart,

Rope and ride until you’re done,

Step up and do your part.

And finally I guess I’d say,

Be kind to oldsters, too,

‘Cause there is coming soon a day,

When that old guy is you.

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:1-2, NAS)

it matters where we get our advice. We are bombarded as never before with all sorts of advice concerning our health, our weight, our retirement, our vote and every other imaginable pitch. Some of it’s fine but a lot of it is pure nonsense. The blessed person stays focused on God’s will and plan for their lives and learns to disregard the constant pressure of a sinful world. Delighting in God and His plan is the way to go!

Lord, help us mediate on Your will and ways, in Jesus’ name.
