"Be Still"

We fall behind and then rewind,

Rise and run again,

Constant late, out-pacing fate,

To there from where we’ve been.

Busy bees and if you please,

We never do get through,

Flying wild, a stressed-out child,

And rarely bored, it’s true.

But slowing down and coming ‘round,

To a slower, better life,

Would help us so, and don’t you know,

Relieves us of our strife.

The Good Book’s word though rarely heard,

Says be still and we’ll know,

But without that, our habitat,

Will ever hectic grow.

Unplug and see how it can be,

With God’s peace in the lead,

Wind it down and hear the sound,

Of just the words we need.

“Be still and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” (Psalm 46:10, NLT)

Knowing God requires some degree of stillness. As long as we are slaves to the frantic and frenetic, we may never feel His presence. My first encounter with the Holy Spirit happened when a Spirit-filled man suggested I get alone and let the Lord speak to me. In the stillness the Spirit came and showed me the cross. My life changed. Other very important moments along the way happened when a blank was left for God to fill and no one rushed to fill it- with words or activity. One day God will be universally honored, but we may honor Him now in the still, quiet moments offered to Him in recognition and worship. Be still and know…

Lord, help us draw aside from our busy-ness and seek Your face, in Jesus’ name.
