"Blessings"

A whole world of little blessings,

Like the songbirds when they sing,

And the colors of the sunset,

Don’t they just beat everything.

It’s the horses’ gentle nicker,

When the feed is comin’ round,

And the layin’ hens a-roostin’,

When that Texas sun goes down.

It’s the froggies and the crickets,

And the fireflies when they glow,

It’s the deer in silent shadows,

And the cattle when they low.

It’s a quiet life and peaceful,

With the Brazos running by,

And the smiles and hugs and kisses,

When in her arms I lie.

It’s the coffee in the mornin’,

It’s the bacon in the pan,

It’s the dew upon the pastures,

And the strength to know we can,

Do the work that is before us,

Treasure friends both near and far,

It’s the stretch of that old two-lane,

Where you wave at every car.

And I breathe the air of freedom,

And it always brings a tear,

When they sing about Old Glory,

And they raise the flag our here,

‘Cause for these blessings we are thankful,

Both today and always hence,

And we give the praise to Jesus,

And we’ve done it ever since,

He came and gave salvation,

The grace so wild and free,

To every mother’s son of  us,

And for sure to you and me.

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3, NLT)

So many blessings! And when we receive salvation we have been given the biggest blessing of all! This is true not only because we are saved eternally. But also because when we are joined with Christ we become aware of everything else we have been given. Until we came to know Jesus we took for granted every good thing and sometimes even took credit ourselves. But with Jesus comes the understanding that every good and perfect gift is from above. God wants to bless us. Why? It is not because we have earned His blessing. it is because of His great love and the pleasure He takes for giving us good things. What a God we serve!

Lord, teach us to live thankfully, in Jesus’ name.
