"Goin'"
God’s people always goin’,
To wherever God will send,
And when His voice is callin’,
There’s nothing’ they won’t spend.
Abram heard it clearly,
Leave your country and your kin,
To a land that I will show you,
That’s what he did right then.
Not knowing but he’s going,
‘Cause the word was good enough,
No idea the destination,
Or that the journey would get tough.
God said it strong to Moses,
Go back to Egypt land,
Lead the people out of slavery,
Lift that rod that’s in your hand.
And though he was uncertain,
He could do all that God said,
It was get up and get going,
For the job that He had planned.
Get up and save the people,
To a man down in a hole,
Said he was a mighty warrior,
Though he was anything but bold.
And Gideon with three hundred,
Smashed an army in its wake,
Gave three decades of peaceful,
‘Cause he did all that it takes.
Elijah when discouraged,
Jonah depressed and mad,
Daniel in the lions’ den,
The best God ever had.
And Peter on the water,
Walking through the stormy sea,
Focusing on Jesus,
Just the way faith ought to be.
And what about those lepers,
Jesus sent back to the priest,
Healed as they were going,
Amazed to say the least.
And Jesus going, going,
To the cross for all our sins,
To bring us home to heaven,
And He will come again.
So this is our tradition,
Our mandate and our call,
To always be a-goin’,
Ridin’ strong and ridin’ tall.
We will not be passive,
And we will not be late,
It’s the Good Lord who has sent us,
Our purpose and our fate.
“Again He said, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so I am sending you.” (John 20:21, NLT)
It was Easter night. The disciples, terrified behind closed doors, had never been so defeated. Suddenly Jesus appeared in the room. He is alive! He speaks peace to them, and shows them His scars. What a moment it must have been. Then He says that He is sending them just as He was sent by the Father. Strangely, He breathes upon them and they receive the Holy Spirit, perhaps their birth from above. The message is clear. They will never be passive or paralyzed again. They will be on mission until He returns. We are those who go because we’ve been sent.
Lord, send us, in Jesus’ name.
