"In His Name"

There is a time for everything,

Or so the Good Book tells,

And God has set it all in place,

Despite all life’s bombshells.

And though the heartbreak is severe,

His grace is stronger still,

Works for our good in everything,

And with His love will fill.

And we can trust Him through it all,

There is no need to fear,

Gives us confidence and peace,

And lets us know He’s near.

I cannot say how others fare,

I am not in their shoes,

But as for me I’ll live by faith,

And this is what I choose,

To follow where the Spirit leads,

And live life by the Book,

And when the Lord says go do this,

I’ll have the sense to look,

At every opportunity,

And need that I can meet,

Then do it all in Jesus’ name,

And learn to wash their feet.

‘Cause greatness comes with serving,

There is no other way,

Especially the least and lost,

By what we do and say.

Not ignoring what is obvious,

The sin of those deceived,

But God help us to get it done,

By His love and pow’r received.

And when we’ve spent all that we are,

To drag them from hell’s flame,

We’ll praise the Lord and credit Him,

For it’s done in Jesus’ name.

“Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” (Colossians 3:17, NLT)

The older translation says: whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus. When we do something in His name we are representing Jesus. We are becoming His hands and feet on earth. There is no higher calling or greater purpose. When we are all in with Jesus, He will show us who to serve. This will become so obvious that we cannot miss it. Of course we can always drift back into selfishness and go to sleep at the wheel spiritually. But the Lord has called us to die to our egotism on a daily basis so that we are consistently available to Him. This availability always leads to opportunity. In Jesus name, get it done.

Lord, help us do everything as Your representative, in Jesus’ name.
