"Carefree"
They said he should be worried,
He said I don’t see why,
They said because your numbers,
Are getting way too high.
He said he’d make adjustments,
In diet and with meds,
But he refused to worry,
He’d trust the Lord instead.
They acted like He slapped ‘em,
Like they resented his relief,
But my friend who lived the longest,
Had a strong, carefree belief.
And, no, he was not foolish,
Or reckless in his ways,
It’s just he trusted Jesus,
And what the Bible says.
He cast on Christ his every care,
A hundred years plus two,
And then the Good Lord called him home,
When his earthly life was through.
I do not know how long I have,
But this, no doubt, is true,
I may not add years to my life,
Lord, put more life my years into,
By relieving me of worry,
I’ll cast on You my care,
To truly lead a carefree life,
And trust that You are there.
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7, NAS)
God is in the promoting business, and if we’re willing to humble ourselves, He will exalt at the proper time. This may not happen until we get to heaven, but it is His promise. All too often we believe we must promote ourselves, but if we do, the full weight of our spiritual progress falls on us. We get burned out and anxious. God’s way is to walk humbly, and cast every care on Him. This is the only way to be care-free, but it’s exactly what God wants.
Lord, help us cast every care on You, in Jesus’ name.
