"Chicken Fried Steak"
There’s a food we have in Texas,
On every menu that you see,
A steak that we called chicken fried,
As good as it can be.
Gold-battered meat with gravy,
Creamy white with taters mashed,
So you get a lot that fills you,
And will do it plenty fast.
And ‘bout a thousand calories,
Of comfort food for sure,
And might just clog your arteries,
From your diet will detour.
But, man, it’s really worth it,
If you lose days at the end,
This stuff is really worth the trade,
And let me tell you, friend,
The worst I ever had was great,
In a small, down home cafe,
And the best would bring you tears of joy,
So please just let me say,
I love those enchiladas,
And a burger done just right,
Medium filet mignon,
And smoked ribs, every bite.
But when you finally get to Texas,
As fast as e’er you can,
Order yourself chicken fried,
Steak, you’ll be a fan.
Crispy, beefy, man, it’s good,
And take your time to eat,
Savor every single bite,
‘Cause it’s so hard to beat.
It’s southern and it’s cowboy,
And it’s Texas through and through,
And no matter where you’re from,
We’ll have some fried for you.
“For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17, NLT)
As satisfying and enjoyable as a good meal can be, nothing satisfies like the spiritual provision God makes for us through Jesus Christ. The Roman Christians were arguing about eating food that had been sacrificed to the idols they once served. We are far past that controversy now, but people can still get upset about external things that don’t really matter. God gives us His righteousness and we seek the righteousness as well. Living under God’s rule gives us great peace and overflowing joy as we are empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Lord, help us live with righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
